Why it matters: A woman dies in childbirth every two minutes, and postpartum hemorrhage — severe bleeding after delivery — is the single largest killer. Three low-cost tools have been proven to prevent and treat it: calibrated drapes that measure blood loss, heat-stable carbetocin (a drug that doesn't require refrigeration), and tranexamic acid. But getting those tools from clinical trials into the hands of midwives in the highest-burden countries has been agonizingly slow.
